The carpenter's bench
Of robust and heavy construction,
that it does not vibrate under impacts produced while working on it,
consists of four legs supporting a big top.
It's equipped with two vises, the
left, called "front vise", and the right called "end vise", which is
essentially a parallel vice.
The top has equidistant holes for the
accommodation of arrests spring also known as "dogs" or "crab", that serve
to fix the workpieces on the bench by means tail vise; is generally made
of a hard and compact wood, such as common oak, hornbeam and
downy oak.
Bench slave
It's a portable stand with adjustable
pegs, used to hold the ends of the boards too long to be supported with
only a bench vise.
